The advent in 2015 of a Viability Statement was a significant innovation in the UK reporting framework. For most companies it is the start of a journey.
In this paper, we try to paint a picture of how they are starting to approach the disclosure of their long-term viability.
We examine 91 annual reports across the FTSE 350 with 31 December year ends (based on all the reports available at the end of March 2016). We look at the disclosure of the Viability Statement but also at any discussion about how it was considered by the Board and Audit Committee and the process for its development.
